The town of Easton was settled in the late 17th century, when Thomas Penn commissioned William Parsons to lay out the area. The town was named for the English estate of Thomas Fermor, Penn’s father-in-law. Easton enjoyed a varied four-season temperate climate. High temperatures in the summer average in the low 80s but can reach 95 degrees, and storms are common in Easton. The town is also home to a variety of cultures.

This weekend, the Easton Garlic Festival is back at Centre Square! It’s the spiciest festival of the year! Food vendors and specialty garlic foods are available for purchase. In addition to the main event, the Easton Garlic Fest will feature a variety of fun events throughout the weekend, including a Hometown Heroes Cook-Off. On Saturday, Oct. 2, the event will feature local police, fire departments, and emergency squads preparing dishes for the community. On Saturday, Oct. 3, there will be an Iron Chef Cook-Off! Esteban Morales, owner of Morales Catering, will be competing for the title of “Best Chef of the Festival.” There will be plenty of food, garlic vinegar, and dog treats for the entire family to enjoy.

The Easton Garlic Fest will be held on October 2 and 3, 2021. Featuring over 80 garlic growers, local vendors, and gourmet foods, this two-day event will be filled with a delicious garlicky aroma! South College is the largest residence hall at Lafayette. It houses approximately 220 students and is co-ed. Aeston is home to the College’s newspaper, The Aeston. Its history goes back to the 18th century, when the first student-run newspaper was published. Today, the paper is still available in print, and students can access online articles and archives. The Lafayette Weekly Student Newspaper is published every Friday throughout the academic year.

Students can learn more about the history of the American Revolution and its emergence as an international powerhouse. Lafayette College was founded in 1826 and first began classes in 1832. Lafayette College’s founder, James Madison Porter, named it after the famous general. Lafayette College is home to over 200 student organizations, including an on-campus nightclub. Students can participate in over 200 clubs and organizations, including the famous Greek system of close to a dozen fraternities and sororities.

In order to increase diversity on campus, the school is moving to its downtown location. The new location in the Alpha Building on Centre Square is part of an ongoing effort to diversify the student body and make the college more competitive and diverse. In March, the Board of Trustees of Lafayette College approved a new strategic direction that will strengthen the college’s affordability and ensure its distinction through growth. Construction on the new building is anticipated to begin in early fall.
